FangRong's Inner Thread Forming Machines are designed for cold forming internal helical grooves and ribs inside metal tubes. Instead of removing material by machining, the forming rollers displace the tube wall to create a controlled internal profile. This makes the process particularly useful for copper and aluminum heat exchanger tubes, where the internal geometry directly affects heat transfer and tube performance.
For condenser, evaporator and air-conditioning tubes, a smooth internal bore is not always the most efficient surface for heat exchange. Internal helical ribs increase the effective surface area and promote turbulence in the flowing refrigerant, helping improve heat transfer within a compact tube design. FangRong's forming process produces these internal grooves by controlled plastic deformation, without cutting chips from the tube wall.
The machines can process copper, aluminum and stainless steel tubes with outside diameters from approximately 10 mm to 100 mm. Groove pitch, groove depth and other forming parameters can be set according to the tube specification and production requirements. The actual forming conditions are determined by tube material, wall thickness, internal profile and required production speed.
The quality of an internally threaded tube depends largely on the relationship between the forming rollers, tube wall and feed movement. FangRong uses precision forming rollers with servo-controlled feeding and roller pressure to maintain a stable forming condition along the tube length. This helps keep the internal groove geometry consistent rather than relying on manual adjustment during production.
Roller design is developed around the required tube profile. FangRong can provide custom roller designs and process optimization for different groove pitches, depths and tube materials. For customers developing a new condenser or heat exchanger tube, the tooling and forming parameters can therefore be considered together with the tube specification instead of selecting the machine separately from the process.
Because the tube is formed rather than machined, the process also avoids the material loss associated with conventional internal cutting. Cold deformation can increase the local work hardening of the tube, while stable roller pressure and feeding help maintain the dimensional consistency required for subsequent tube processing.
Inner thread forming is often one operation within a larger tube manufacturing process. FangRong can integrate the equipment with its Cold Drawing Machines and Straightening Machines according to the required production route. For copper tube manufacturers, this allows internal forming to be considered as part of the complete tube processing line rather than as an isolated machine.
The equipment is mainly used for air-conditioning tubes, condenser tubes, evaporator tubes and other heat exchanger tubing. FangRong also supports machine configuration, roller selection, process adjustment, installation and operator training. For applications requiring external thread forming, the company's Inner Thread Forming Machine provide a separate solution for external threaded components.
